ETC Mission

ETC uses the equine experience as a tool for emotional growth and learning. The program is not limited to only the art of riding, but also utilizes the task of caring for the horse and the bonds that form through this caring as a means to establish trust, respect and responsibility. The goal of the program is to motivate, diminish anxieties, develop trust, learn self-evaluation, increase self-esteem and develop or enhance socialization skills.

ETC encourages a healthy balance between the development of group skills and focus of self. Learning how to interact appropriately with authority figures and to treat others with respect are also key objectives.

Our Vision:

  • Challenge children in a non-threatening way.

  • Break down defense barriers.

  • Promote change from dysfunctional patterns to successful and responsible patterns.

  • Help children build character by the development of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

My Experience from Summer camp

My name is Chad Adkins and this summer I went to a camp called Shiloh camp. Out of all the activities we did there, I would have to say that riding horses was the best. In my opinion I would say that all of my friends that were acting like they were big, bad, and acted like they knew it all. After being on the horse for a split second. Or maybe even when they just came in close range of it all. Changed my whole perspective of how I saw them. Of course that was one of the lessons they were teaching us at shiloh camp. That was to never judge someone, unless you want to be judged that same way. It took my  a while to get that through my head because they always wanted to start fights and not respecting what they were there in the first place. And that's spending quality time with God surronded by a loving place where a kid and be a kid. When we came in contact with the horses, all of this negative energy became positive. I guess you can say that the horses put the fear of God back in them. They were real sceputal about getting the horses, not putting their faith into the horse and trusting it enough that it wont buck you off. That was a lesson that the horse conducter Mrs. Prim, taught us. She said that we shouldn't be afraid of the horse. Because the horse might be more afraid of you. That we should be open to try new things through the Lord Jesus Christ. We should lean on him when we try those new things. And have faith that he will hold us up and not let us fall. But just like the horse you will sometimes fall. That's probably because you did something wrong to begin with. But that's not the end of it all. You just have to get back on the horse and do it again. Eventually you'll learn from your mistakes. Just like your christian journey. Your going to make mistakes that will throw you off of course. But you have to lean on God that he will forgive you for your sins. Then you will realize that he has been there since the begening waiting for that day to come, for you to ask God to help you on your journey in life both spiritually, and mentally. Putting you back on the right path to righteosness. That's is my experience on having this oppertunity to come to Shiloh Camp and wittnes first hand the miracles of God. Even the smallest miracles like a horse can change a person's life for the good.
